For someone who’s never had the real thing

Start with a pack of hand-cut 100% ibérico de bellota — the black-label grade. It’s the moment people understand why Spaniards talk about ham the way others talk about wine.

Black label

100% Ibérico de Bellota ham, hand-cut slices (100 g)

Alises · Spain · Hand-cut slices, vacuum pack, 100 g

A straightforward black-label pack, cut by hand in thin bar-style slices and fulfilled by Amazon, so it usually arrives quickly. A good first bellota.

Why we like it

  • Black label, hand-cut
  • Fulfilled by Amazon: quick delivery

Keep in mind

  • Lesser-known producer

Best for: First-time buyers, quick delivery

For someone who already loves it

Hand-cut ham from Jabugo, the town most associated with top ibérico, with its protected designation of origin. Cutting by knife instead of machine changes the texture: thinner at the edges, more irregular, closer to what you get in a Spanish bar.

Black label

Jamón de Bellota 100% Ibérico D.O.P. Jabugo, hand-cut, vacuum packed

PDO Jabugo · Sierra de Huelva (PDO Jabugo) · Hand-cut slices, vacuum pack

Carries the Jabugo Protected Designation of Origin seal — useful if you want to taste the intense Jabugo style and compare it with a Salamanca ham.

Best for: Comparing origins, Jabugo fans

For a board and a party

Ham plus salchichón, chorizo and cured loin: a tasting of the whole Ibérico family. Add a pack of lomo if the group is big.

Ibérico (mixed)

Ibérico selection: ham, salchichón, chorizo and cured loin (200 g)

Spanish deli selection · Spain · 4 sliced cured meats, 200 g

The easiest 'Spanish bar at home' kit: ham plus the three classic Ibérico cured meats. Check the label on the ham — it isn't the same grade as a black-label pack.

Best for: Tapas night, trying everything once

Price and availability on Amazon.co.uk

Ibérico (cured loin)

Lomo Ibérico, sliced (100 g)

The Spanish Hamper · Spain · Pre-sliced cured loin, 100 g

Cured Ibérico loin: leaner, with paprika and garlic on the edge. Many Spaniards like it as much as the ham and it's usually cheaper.

Best for: Leaner option, board variety

The ultimate gift: a whole leg

A whole bone-in leg on a stand is the most Spanish present there is. It’s also the easiest to regret. Give it only if all of these are true:

Black label

Cinco Jotas whole Jamón 100% Ibérico de Bellota, bone-in (7.5–8 kg)

Cinco Jotas (5J) · Jabugo, Huelva · Whole bone-in leg

Only if you'll host often, have a stand and a long knife, and will eat it within ~6–8 weeks of opening. Otherwise sliced packs are better value and less waste.

Why we like it

  • The full Spanish ritual: carving at the table
  • Top-grade 100% ibérico de bellota from Jabugo

Keep in mind

  • Needs a stand, a long knife and practice
  • Must be eaten within ~6–8 weeks of opening

Best for: Big celebrations, serious fans

Accessory

Jamonprive ham stand + ham knife + sharpening steel + cover

Jamonprive (made in Spain) · Spain · Pine stand, carving knife, steel, cover

If you buy a whole leg you need a stand that grips it firmly. A pine jamonero like this is what most Spanish homes use.

Why we like it

  • Stand, knife, steel and cover in one box
  • The pine jamonero most Spanish homes use

Keep in mind

  • Only useful if you buy a whole leg

Best for: Anyone buying a whole leg

A note on “Ibérico” gifts that aren’t

Lots of hampers say “Iberian” or “Ibérico” in big letters and “50% Ibérico” or “cebo” in small ones. Nothing wrong with them, but they aren’t the ham people dream about. Look for 100% ibérico de bellota — or at least bellota — if you want the real experience.
